Abstract
Plumeria rubra is widely used ornamental plant in most part of the world. The leaves, bark, flower and latex part of this plant show numerous medicinal values. Plumeria is as a natural remedy in Peruvian herbal medicine systems. It is considered a pain-reliever, blood cleanser, fever-reducer, astringent, anti-inflammatory and laxative. It is often employed for arthritis, rheumatism and back pain; cancer and tumor; skin issues such as wounds, abscesses, ulcers, boils, rashes and sores; gastric ulcers, intestinal and skin parasites (worms); and for tuberculosis and fevers. The study clearly indicates the presence of the Phytochemicals such as Tannin, Saponin, Flavonoids and Alkaloids present in the Plumeria rubra. Gallic acid Equivalent (GE) Total Phenols in the leaves and flowers were determined using Folin Ciocalteu method. The flavonoid content of the leaves and flowers were measured using UV- spectrophotometer. The antioxidant activity by DPPH method analysed and values were expressed as Ascorbic acid Equivalent Antioxidant Capacity (AECE).
