Abstract

“Sauropus androgynus” belongs to the family Euphorbiaceae shrub plant. A literature survey and screening of scientific data revealed that a large number of indigenous drugs have already been investigated as regards their botany and chemistry is concerned, however, a systematic standardization including pharmacognostical and physio-chemical studies are still lacking. The present investigation on leaf of the plant is therefore taken up to establish certain botanical, pharmacognostical, physicochemical and preliminary phytochemical standards which would help in identification as well as in checking adulteration, if any, further the study will greatly help in quality assurance of finished products of herbal drugs. This present study was also undertaken to investigate the effect of antimicrobial activity in different solvent extracts of the leaf.
